June 2010

We got together a few times with Thomas' old mothergroup friend Arthur - first for a brunch, where James found himself getting very sleepy after playing downstairs with the big boys, and later for a BBQ in Arthur's family's backyard - a shared courtyard complete with lovely garden areas and lots of nice things to play with.

James continues to develop, picking up bigger and heavier things, opening cupboards to "store" various treasures, and climbing on and off the ride-on tractor (though he hasn't gotten the hang of the riding part yet).

Thomas' preschool got into the spirit when Denmark was competing in the World Cup, decorating the kids' faces in football (soccer) fan style.  Thomas found the experience somewhat bewildering but went along with it, also the following week when they had a "face paint day".  He's supposed to be Lightning McQueen from the Cars movie - not sure how they got the number wrong when it was so clearly printed on his T-shirt!

James' carer Karen very thoughtfully sends us regular pictures of their activities. Despite a rather cool and rainy spring, James and little Thomas manage to have a grand time at the local playgrounds, both indoors and outdoors.

Much as he enjoys his time there, it will also be lots of fun for him - and easier for us - when he starts at the same daycare as Thomas in August.

James now has 10 teeth through, 8 in front and two lower molars, and is currently in major discomfort working on the upper ones.  We are all looking forward to getting through this phase!

In the meantime he's going through lots of other developments: climbing stairs, climbing on and off beds and sofas, stacking and nesting cups (rather than just knocking them over), picking up items and putting them "away" (socks in the pots and pans cupboard, bath toy in the washing machine...)  He is constantly on the go and thrives on stimulation and interaction with other people, so we're not expecting too much difficulty with the bigger daycare.

We finally got some nice weather in the first weekend in June, and took advantage of it to head to the local beach on Amager Strand.  It was still too cold to swim, despite James' best efforts, but we filled a small inflatable pool which heated up quite quickly.

More shared activities; James loves to climb up on the sofa and try to climb all over Thomas, and Thomas loves to get in James' way on the big net swing at one of the local playgrounds.

Sleepy time again... to each his comfort item as they watch a little more Night Garden and initiate bedtime routines.
