Happy Birthday Thomas!

Finally it was Thomas' turn to have a birthday, and he was very excited to open all his presents, with or without help from James.  He also enjoyed his birthday cake, including the strawberry stegosaurus and the gooey green icing.

Some favourite presents included Maxi (one of the characters from his favourite show, Roary the Racing car), lots of Lego, and pedals on his bike.  Having had lots of practice on the same bike without pedals, it was only a matter of minutes before he had got the hang of cycling, without even bothering with training wheels.

On the following Monday, Thomas' preschool group came by to celebrate his birthday with him.  It's standard practice for Danish kids, but the first time for us, so we were a little nervous about the impending invasion of 3-6 year olds.  Fortunately the summer holidays meant that we only had 10 visitors instead of 22, and they were actually pretty well behaved.

Danish flags are traditionally part of birthday decorations, and we were lucky to have a few Canadian flags (though no Union Jacks unfortunately) to greet the group when they arrived around 9:30. Everyone trooped up to the roof for a game of Pin-the-horn-on-the-Triceratops, and then came down to the apartment for the important business of checking out the birthday boy's room and toys.

His birthday present from the group was a couple of Roary books, which Karl was very happy to review with him.

Thomas was very excited about this long-anticipated event, but also quite overwhelmed, especially during the singing of the birthday song while he was very much the center of attention...
