April 2012

Spring haircut

We had a week of pleasant weather in early April, prompting Thomas and dad to head over to Mr. Birch the barber and get spring haircuts.  James came along as a spectator but was still very mistrustful of the experience.  He was somewhat mollified by a doughnut and a bit of playing on Cindy's Ipod.  Maybe for his 3rd birthday...

Thomas' friend Matias came over to play around Easter; after lunch we headed out to a few local playgrounds while James had his nap.  It was a perfect day for kite flying, something neither of them had tried since they could remember.

More Easter activities

On Good Friday, James tried out Thomas' old BWM bike and finally found himself big enough to ride it.  This naturally delighted him and we went for several rides over the course of the long weekend.

On Saturday, we headed out to the countryside to enjoy dinner and nice wine with our restaurateur friend Christiano.  The boys loved running around his garden, watching the horses next door, trying to find the elusive house cat, and of course eating the chocolate eggs they were given.  As bedtime approached they were tucked in on a pair of sofas upstairs, but when it was time to go we found James had rolled off the sofa and installed himself comfortably under the coffee table!

We had a fairly quiet Easter Sunday, with a pleasant afternoon visit from 6-year old friend Mark and his dad Tim.  Somehow the Easter bunny appeared to have hidden a batch of those little chocolate eggs in the bedroom where James had been having his nap, so all the boys had fun finding and sharing them.

On the Monday Thomas was given a clue to another egg hunt, this time a scavenger hunt with a series of close-up photos from various corners of the apartment.  At the end of the trail were the giant chocolate eggs sent from the English Easter bunny (Grandad Roger).

The hunt was such a success that we made up some more batches of clues and Thomas still loves to run around creating clue trails for us to follow almost every day.

Home again

James is as big a fan of yoghurt as Thomas ever was.  The boys love to go for a "horsey ride" on dad's back, though honestly they're getting a bit heavy for it!

We bumped into friend Timo and his mum at the swimming pool and invited them back for some coffee and playing... a good time definitely had by all.
